A day at the Temples of Angkor

This morning, after breakfast I decided to hire a bicycle and I found one for 2 USD. ( That's the currency to use here) I wanted to do Angkor Wat and the Temples on a bike, so I started out at 9am along the river and I guess it was 5-6 km to the place! The Angkorian period spans more than 600 years from AD 803-1432! The Khmer empire was a great power in Southeast Asia. The hundreds of Temples was a city of one million people at that time to compare with London, a town of 50.000 people!
This is said to be heaven on earth! It's the largest religious site in the world, and what beauty it represents! I couldn't in my imagination think that this site should be this wonderful and large. I'm posting some photos and it was hard to choose! My bicycle tour took more than 6 hours and I was pretty tired when back. After a local beer I decided it was time for a traditional Thai Massage, and that was what my body needed! I went out for dinner at Pub Street, where a lot of people from all over the world were, and I found a nice place for a grilled fish and a beer!
I will have a nice sleep tonight after this long bicycle trip!

  1. Sounds like you had a lovely day - the idea travelling around with the bike is perfect, even if you were tired in the evening (walking around is also tiring) ;-) At least you could relax with a nice Thai massage after and a nice dinner! :-)
    Love from us all
