A great way to spend the first day of the new year - on the Mekong River!

This morning I had to get up early. They made some coffe and some bread with home made jam and butter at 6.30! Good! Away down to the river and on the boat.

We started out when it was cold (20C) so I needed my flees jacket! The captain (it was only he and me on the boat) was driving very good and could really read the river and where to go! Good speed!
It was interesting to see how people live along the river, similar to Back Waters in India and along the Amazon! They live very simple lives and use what nature brings!

It was about three hours before we reach the place with the waterfall, and we went on land to a moto tuk tuk. He took us along the very bumpy road for about half an hour before we reached the waterfall! But it was worth the journey! We started with a simple lunch pack that we had with us and then I walked around looking at the fall. Quite impressive!

We went back the same bumpy road and had a short break, before going in the boat again. We just went out on open water to spot the dolphins! We saw them far away in there typical way coming up and rolling down again. I think we saw about ten on them but it was impossible to get them on a photo!
We then headed back south. We were at the Laos boarder and one side of the river, while spotting dolphines were Laos.

It was very interesting againg to do this trip on the mighty Mekong. On the way back we stoped at some friends of the captain, who lived a very basic live. On a very small island the had a plate to sleep on, with some plastics to cover! The kitchen vhere really basic and it was a man and a woman and their two small children! They grilled some small fishes and I was invited for a bite! They had two roasters and a couple of hens! It's hard to imagine living a life like this! It was a nice break!

We came back to Stung Treng at 4pm and it has been a very interesting day!

I walked to Soraya bus station and booked a bus ticket for Saturday to Pakse in Laos!
Back to the Guest House and a typicall dish for Cambodia - Amuk!! Tasty
