To start - I didn't become a Monk, just a Layman. But there were Laymen from Canada, Germany, USA, Malaysia, Australia, Estonia, Brasil and France. Some came for a week, a month or more. Some came with the ambition to become a monk. IT would take a year and a half to become a monk and before that you are a novice. There were 4 novice and around 25 Monks. We had to follow the routines as laymen and I will go thru that. There is a strong hierarcy in the Monastry and when you arrived and how long you've stayed gave you the rank!
Most Laymen had shaved their heads, but I didn't have to do it!!!!! So My hair is stil there!
The Monastry was beatifully located in a forrest and the buildings were perfectly embedded. We were sleeping in dorms and on a blanket on a wooden floor with a moscito net. That was hard, but suffering is one of the things a monk must endure. The other hard thing was that we had to sit on the floor, sometimes on a carpet, but never on a chair, so my knees hurted. The Meal was also eaten sitting on the hard floor. But, all this was bearable!
It has been a great experience - a lot of meditation in the big SALA! Unfortunatly for me there is a great event tomorrow on Monday so a lot of normal activities this week was cancelled, but we had both normal meditation and walking meditation, and I feel like it has made a great change for me!
The normal day was getting up at 3am for a chanting and so it was the first days, but they cancelled it becauce of the event. So, we went up at 4 am and did a Meditation until 5 am. After that the Monks were cleaning the big Sala and we were sweeping the foot paths and parking etc until 6 am about.
After that we had a short rest - the Monks went out to the villages for alms-ronds to get the food, and one morning I had the priviledge to follow them. They walked bare-foot on asfalt roads for about 45 minutes every day, and in the villages the men, women and sometimes children were sitting on their knees giving each Monk the same amount of rice, eggs, cake, vegetables, etc. It was very nice to see this and help the Monks. It was dark when we left but under the walk the dawn came with the sun.
At 7 we started to sort out the food with help from local people. It was a lot of food, especially on Sundays! When we were ready with the food a novice gave the plate to a Monk, who placed in on the long table in a surtain order. At 8 am, 4 hour after getting up, the bell was ringing for the morning chanting and everybody was sitting in the big hall in a surtain order!
After that the Monks took their bowls and walked out, followed by the novices and then us laymen (in order as we had arrived here) The Monks were eating in the big Sala with the Buddha and we had to sit in a special area in the kitchen. This was the only meal we got!
After this we had some free time to do meditation, rest or walking in the forrest! Walking in the beatiful forrest was very relaxing and so was the meditation! We normally had some other tasks during the day and at 4.30 we had drinks together with the Monks. It was soft drinks, coke, tea, hot chocolate and other drinks. Some evenings a Monks made a speach and especially one evening he was talking about happiness! Very interesting! The long term goal for a buddhist is the Nirvana and to reach it with a long lasting happiness was one of the goals!
Buddhism is one of few spiritual "religions" that never used war to expand their thoughts!!!!

Wat Pah Nanachat
Tomorrow at 07.30 a car will take me to the Buddhist Monastery Wat Pa Nanachat and I will be back on the blog after a week or so when my visit is over! I very excited about the stay as a buddhist Monk!
From dawn to dusk or even dark!
Greatings to the King on his bearthday that's celebrating all over the country!!! Already 6.30 in the morning they were making arrangements at the train station!
I woke up at 5.15, packed my things and walked the short way to the station. 2nd class with fans in the cealing and open windows and plenty of room for the legs! Breakfast, some bananas and almonds in choklate! Exciting to be on my way to the unknown!
A lady went thru the wagon and I got a small cup of coffee with lots of sugar and cream and it went down without problem. It took a long time to get out of Bangkok, but later the landscape changed into more forest, hills and almost mountains! All the time during the trip people were walking up and down the wagon, selling different types of food, from whole meals to eggs to drinks in plastic bags etc. The smell of different food filled sometimes the wagon!
A lady came and took the place next to me and becauce of her size she took a part of my place too!
The toilett were two foot plates and a hole, that's comon in this part of the world. It's hard to use it when the train rolls in the speed.
From dawn to dask/dark - when I arrived at the destination it was dark. A couple from the train helped me to bargain the price with the tuc-tuc driver from 140 Bath to 80. (SEK divide by 4). He drow the 3-wheel vehicle like he had stolen it, but we arrived safely at Sri Isam Hotel. Yes, they had a room for one night for 440 bath!
After leaving my luggage at the room I went down to the lobby for a Singa beer and I sat outside in the warm evening. A police officer came up and sat down beside me and offered to pick me up tomorrow morning and take me to the monastery! I walked out to the Market - lots of people and food stalls, but after a while I went back to a small nice restaurant for a green curry beef and rice!
Back to the Hotel and I asked for a taxi tomorrow morning to take me to the monastery!

Shopping makes The world go around
This morning, Thursday 4th, I took the Metro to Si Lon and changed to the S-ban to Siam to visit the Mall MBK! This area is a modern shopping area with lots of modern shops! I had to buy some things for my going the Monastry tomorrow by train. This area is a gigant shopping area and it's totaly different from yesterdays old town, though many things and shops are similare to the one in the Old Town. It took me some hours to get the things I needed including a book about teaching the Buddhism! I had a coffee and almost a chocolate cake to die for, but just almost!
I took the same way back and it was convinient and cheap - the trip costed equivalent to 12 SEK!
Back to the hostel and a Zinga beer and tonight a dinner in China Town nearby the Hostel!
Tomorrow at 6.40 am I'm taking the train to Ubon Rachathani. A train ride for about 12 hours. I'll stay there one night before signing in early Saturday Morning at Wat Pa Nanachat Monastry. After that I will not be able to comunicate as long as I'm there.

A day of walking old town in Bangkok
After a good nights sleep, a shower, organizing my things a bit and then English breakfast and Guava juice at the hostel! Ready to walk!
I started out for a long walk in the old town! I first stopped at Wat Traimit. The Temple of the Golden Buddha! Impressive with the 3 m tall, 5,5-tonne, solid-gold Buddha image! Lots of local people visiting this Site!
Then I walked the Songwat road with many small businesses, clustered by the type of sales! I came to the Ratchawong boat terminal for boats going along the River. They feeded really big fishes by the entrence!
I came to the big Flower-Market with lovely flowers and fruits etc! Then I passed the Siam museum on my way to the magnificient Wat Pho! I've never seen such a collection of Buddhas before and the largest one is 46 m long and 15 m high, finished in plaster and gold leaf! There was a ceremony for the King today and a nice orchestra with young people were playing, when the ceremonie arrived!
I then walk to the Royal Palace, after a break with some Guava fruit and an iced coffee! There was also a ceremony celebrating the upcoming birthday for the King. So many people were there so I choosed not to go in!
I walk then to the impressive Golden Mount, located on the top of a small mountain and with a fantastic view of Town! I lighted two lights for my parents in front of the laying Buddha!
Back down again I walked my way thru the old town back to the hostel at Hua Lamphong!
I had a Zinga beer after a 6 hours walk with many new impressions!

Travelling can be hard
At Hyllie railway station I used My credit card to bay a ticket! At first i didn't work, but the second time I could read : pin cod OK! I looked down and saw two tickets and I took them both. On the train the ticket man asked for the ticket and he sayed, you don't have a valid ticket! I showed him both and he sayed both payment was denied, and he gave me a penalty ticket for 1000 SEK, to be payed within 8 days. I told him that was impossible as I was on my way to Asia for two months! He just showed me were to make the complaints;-((
Went thru security in Copenhagen - no problem! I had a breakfast in the lounge and then to the plane! It was a good trip and we arrived in good time in London Heathrow terminal 5! Today was crasy, after 2 hours I was at Security, and they took everything out from my luggade and just left it. They told me I had to many liquids and they took a couple of them! They looked at My medical box, but that went thru totaly. I had to repac myself! :-((
Now I'm sitting on the plane and it's soon time for take off! The flight was good though long! 13 hours! At Bangkok AirPort I took the train down town and changed to the Metro and arrived at Hua Lapong just before lunch! I'm settled in my room and that feels good!
